Intercropping impact on population of cotton sucking insect pests

چکیده
The cotton intercropping experiment was conducted for the management of sucking pests, viz. leafhopper, Amrasca biguttula Ishida (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae); whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Gennadius Aleyrodidae) and thrips, Thrips Linderman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in desi cotton, Gossypium arborium. results study revealed that less mean population leafhopper nymphs, whitefly thrips adults recorded from treatments T7 (2.47, 2.61 2.10/leaf, respectively) T8 (2.49, 2.52 2.25/leaf, where pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) sorghum (Sorghum bicolor crops grown as border around respectively. Cotton sole crop (T9) highest i.e. 3.54, 3.97, 3.59/leaf, However, maximum net returns intercropped with sesame 1:1 (T1: 104140 `/ha) whereas minimum (T9: 80021 `/ha).

Novel Genes for Control and Deterrence of Sucking Insect Pests
Current GM crops are thus far the almost exclusive domain of herbicide and insect resistance traits. The Bt toxins used for insect control have a narrow specificity against lepidopteran and coleopteran pests only. Yet, aphids and thrips are highly important pests worldwide, causing severe direct losses and transmitting devastating viruses such as Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV). So far, few us...
متن کاملInsect defence: its impact on microbial control of insect pests
Insects are the earliest and most diverse taxon of animals accounting for more species than all other animals put together because of their high reproductive potential and varied niche. Though cellular reactions like phagocytosis, nodulation and encapsulation and humoral reaction through secretion of antibacterial proteins are known for fungus and bacterial invaders, little is known about insec...
متن کاملHyperspectral radiometry for the detection and discrimination of damage caused by sucking pests of cotton
Use of remote sensing techniques for detection of crop stress due to pests and diseases is based on the assumption that stresses induced by them interfere with photosynthesis and physical structure of the plant, affect absorption of light energy and thus alter the reflectance spectrum of plants. Field experiments were conducted to detect and estimate damage caused by sucking pests in cotton (cv...
متن کاملGlobal Impact of Insect-Resistant (Bt) Cotton
Insect-resistant cotton was first introduced commercially in 1996. It is commonly referred to as Bt cotton, because it produces an insecticidal protein from the naturally occurring soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Global adoption of Bt cotton has risen dramatically from 800,000 hectares in its year of introduction in 1996 to 5.7 million hectares (alone and stacked with herbicide-tole...
متن کاملInfluence of cover crops on insect pests and predators in conservation tillage cotton.
In fall 2000, an on-farm sustainable agricultural research project was established for cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., in Tift County, Georgia. The objective of our 2-yr research project was to determine the impact of several cover crops on pest and predator insects in cotton. The five cover crop treatments included 1) cereal rye, Secale cereale L., a standard grass cover crop; 2) crimson clover...
